Accounting Analyst
Risa Abarientos manages accounts payable, prepares vendor files and monitors cash flow for our clients. Risa earned her B.S. of Business Administration from the University of Colorado where she was the Financial Coordinator for the Student Programs Office and oversaw their budgets, analyzed expense reports, and implemented a new training program.
Sonia Aguilar
Accounting Associate
Sonia Aguilar oversees accounts payable, accounts receivable, monitors operating expenditures and assists with monthly financials for clients. Sonia was previously an Experienced Staff Auditor with BDO Seidman where she mainly worked on auditing manufacturing clients. Sonia graduated with a BA in Business Administration from Cal State Long Beach and is pursuing her CPA license.
Michelle Amini
Accounting Analyst
Michelle Amini manages accounts payable, prepares vendor files and monitors cash flow for our clients. Prior to ExED, Michelle worked for a wholesale distributor where she managed the accounts payable function, payroll, and tracked daily sales figures. Michelle earned her B.S in Accounting from the State University of New York Old Westbury.
Daisy Avila
Senior Accounting Associate
Daisy Avila oversees accounts payable, accounts receivable, monitors operating expenditures and assists with monthly financials for clients. Prior to joining ExED, Daisy was an accounting intern at the Walt Disney Company and a Staff Accountant at Ume & Associates. Daisy earned a B.S. in Business Administration from CSU Long Beach.
Agata Borradori
Accounting Manager
Agata Borradori oversees all accounting and financial functions for select charter schools clients, including preparing financial reports, reviewing payroll and compliance reports, and assisting with school audits. Prior to joining ExED, she worked at Wells Fargo Bank as a personal banker. She has also worked as a business consultant to a chemical production company in her native country, Poland. Agata has a B.S. in business administration from American University in Washington D.C.
Van Bui
Compliance Analyst
Van is responsible for the preparation of various state and federal compliance and funding reports, which include the Attendance Report, Consolidated Application, Class Size Reduction Application, and the SB 740 Grant. Prior to joining ExED, Van served as writing consultant for United Teachers of Los Angeles, a physics teacher through the Peace Corps, and various other internships with the Human Rights Watch, and the Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration. Van earned her Bachelors degree in Astrophysics from UC Berkeley and her Masters in Public Policy from UCLA.
Maria Bustos
Senior Accounting Associate
Maria Bustos oversees accounts payable, accounts receivable, monitors operating expenditures and assists with monthly financials for clients. Prior to joining ExED, Maria worked as an accountant for both RMD Industrial Products, Inc. and at Ultra Dental Care Plus, where she was also the office manager. Maria has a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting from California State University Hayward.
Jacqueline Clarke
Vice President, School Finance
Jacqueline Clarke oversees the business operations for select charter school clients, which includes budgeting, cash flow projections, accounting, bookkeeping, compliance, payroll and general operational issues. Jacqueline comes to ExED from Green Hasson & Janks, where she spent five years managing financial statement audit engagements of non-profit entities. Prior to Green Hasson & Janks, Jacqueline was the in-house Controller for the national office of the Spina Bifida Association. Jacqueline graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Accounting from the University of Maryland and is a Certified Public Accountant.
Gerald Cockrell
Compliance Manager
Gerald Cockrell tracks monthly attendance and reports information to sponsoring districts, prepares and submits quarterly attendance reports to the state, and ensures accuracy and timely completion and submission of state and federal funding applications (Revolving Loan, Child Nutrition, Class Size Reduction, Staff Development, Consolidated Funding Application, English Language Acquisition Program). Prior to joining ExED, Gerald was responsible for account maintenance at a pharmaceutical company. He was also an Accounts Receivable/Payable Manager for an aerospace technology company. Gerald was in the high honors program as an undergraduate student at UCLA.
Graham Dye
Accounting Manager
Graham Dye oversees all accounting and financial functions for select charter schools clients, including preparing financial reports, reviewing payroll and compliance reports, and assisting with school audits. Prior to joining ExED, Graham was a tax accountant for four years where he reviewed, corrected and prepared tax returns, and prepared income tax returns for high net worth and entertainment industry clients. Graham has a B.S. in Business Administration with a major in Accounting from Southeast Missouri State University.
Samira Estilai
Vice President, School Finance
Samira Estilai oversees the business operations for select charter school clients, which includes budgeting, cash flow projections, accounting, bookkeeping, compliance, payroll and general operational issues. Prior to joining ExED, Samira worked for the Los Angeles Unified School District as a Program and Policy Development Advisor in the Office of the Chief Financial Officer. Previously, she was Chief of Staff to Los Angeles Unified School District Board Member Marlene Canter. Samira also served as a Senior Policy Analyst in the Office of Mayor Richard Riordan. Samira holds a B.A. degree in Ethnic Studies from the University of California, Berkeley and a Master of Public Policy degree from USC.
Katrina Franklin
Accounting Associate
Katrina Franklin oversees accounts payable, accounts receivable, monitors operating expenditures and assists with monthly financials for clients. Katrina has worked in several public accounting firms in Los Angeles, where she conducted financial statement audits for non-profit organizations. She also has experience with payroll, weekly budgets, and expenditure reports. Katrina earned her B.A in Business Management Economics and most recently finished her MBA from the University of Phoenix.
Hannah Gallegos
Accounting Analyst
Hannah Gallegos manages accounts payable, prepares vendor files and monitors cash flow for our clients. Most recently, Hannah was the Accounts Receivable/Payable Specialist with Walgreens-OptionCare, where she managed accounts receivable for a regional pharmacy and accounts payable for the accounting department. Hannah graduated with a B.S in Business Administration (finance option) from California State University.

Timothy Goldston
Director, Technology Services
Timothy Goldston manages the operations of ExED’s Technology Services division, providing information technology consulting and technical support to charter school clients. Prior to joining ExED, Tim was the Information Technology (IT) Manager for Pfizer Health Solutions, a subsidiary of Pfizer Pharmaceuticals. He comes to ExED with over twenty years of experience in IT, software development and customer support. Tim holds multiple certifications from Microsoft and Sun Microsystems.
Ryan Griffin
Accounting Manager
Ryan Griffin oversees all accounting and financial functions for select charter schools clients, including preparing financial reports, reviewing payroll and compliance reports, and assisting with school audits. Prior to joining ExED, Ryan was a staff accountant for Vision Films & Vision Music and an assistant bookkeeper at Sean Michael Catering. Ryan has a Bachelor of Science in Finance and Business from California State University Northridge.
Michael Johnston
NMTC Portfolio Manager
Michael Johnston manages the accounting and compliance for ExED's New Markets Tax Credit facilities financing projects. Prior to joining ExED, Michael was a staff accountant for Hurley & Associates and for Daniel Teran, CPA. Throughout his accounting career he has done bookkeeping for several companies and small business clients, prepared quarterly payroll and sales tax returns, and arranged income taxes for individuals, partnerships and corporations. Michael has a Bachelors degree in Business with a concentration in Accounting from CSU Fullerton.
Louise Manuel
Facility Development Director
Louise Manuel is primarily responsible for generating loans for affordable charter school facilities, monitoring and reporting compliance with lenders and federal New Markets Tax Credit regulations, overseeing loan approval, and providing technical assistance on finance and real estate development. Louise has 10 years of experience as Sr. Program Officer for Los Angeles LISC (Local Initiatives Support Corporation). Louise earned an M.A. in Urban Planning and Social Development Policy and a B.A. in Geography with a minor in Art History from UCLA.
Marshall Mayotte
Vice President, School Finance (Part-Time)
Marshall Mayotte oversees the business operations for two charter school clients. Mr. Mayotte also operates a consulting firm. He worked as the General Manager and Controller of Bio-Energy, Inc., and was a Tax Specialist at KPMG Peat Marwick, LLP. As a consultant, he worked for the Institute for the Study of Educational Entrepreneurship at UCLA. Marshall has a B.A. in business-economics with a minor in accounting from UCLA, an M.B.A. from the UCLA Anderson School of Management and a Master of Business Taxation from the USC Marshall School of Business.
Joe Meza
Vice President, School Finance
Joe Meza oversees the business operations for select charter school clients, which includes budgeting, cash flow projections, accounting, bookkeeping, compliance, payroll and general operational issues. Joe most recently worked with the Mentor Corporation where he focused on merger and acquisition projects. Prior to the Mentor Corporation, he worked with CITIGROUP, DirecTV, and First American. Throughout his career, Joe was involved with the Anderson Riordan Fellows Program, the LA Chamber of Commerce Leadership Development Program and the Inside Out Community Arts Program. Joe received his MBA (concentration finance) from the Wharton School of Business.
Jessica Norman
Assistant VP, School Finance
Jessica Norman oversees the business operations for select charter school clients, which includes budgeting, accounting, compliance, and payroll. She also assists school developers in drafting charter petitions and coordinating the approval process, and preparing budgets and financial feasibility studies for start-up charter schools. Prior to joining ExED, Jessica worked for the Urban Education Partnership as Associate Director of Research and Evaluation. She has also worked at LAUSD in the Program Evaluation and Research Branch, analyzing data on charter schools, and at Mathematica Policy Research in Washington DC as a research assistant. Jessica holds a Master in Public Policy from UCLA and a B.A. in psychology from the University of Pennsylvania.
Lynn Oishi
Director of Administration
Lynn Oishi coordinates internal administration and bookkeeping for ExED. She also assists Mr. Siart, the chairman of the board, with his numerous charitable activities in the community. Previously, she worked for First Interstate Bancorp for 12 years. Ms. Oishi is a graduate of the University of California, Irvine.
Maria Ana Pacubas
Administrative Assistant
Maria Ana Pacubas provides administrative and operational support. She previously worked as secretary to the Chief of Medical Administration at the U.S. Embassy in Manila. Maria Ana earned her B.S. in business administration from the University of East Manila in the Philippines.
Darshita Patel
Accounting Analyst
Darshita Patel manages accounts payable, prepares vendor files and monitors cash flow for clients. Most recently, Darshita worked with Evolving Resources Incorporated as a Jr. Staff Accountant where she instituted procedures for reconciling bank statements which reduced errors by 75%. Darshita earned her B.A. in Finance from California State University and is currently enrolled at California Lutheran, where she is working towards her MBA degree in finance.
Ayanthy Peiris
Accounting Associate
Ayanthy Peiris oversees accounts payable, accounts receivable, monitors operating expenditures and assists with monthly financials for clients. Ayanthy previously worked at HQ Entertainment where she managed the real estate and carousel operations of the business as a staff accountant. Ayanthy earned a B.A in Finance and International Business from California State University and is currently working towards her accounting certificate from the University of California.
Van Pham
Help Desk Technology Analyst
Van Pham provides internal technology support, including hardware/software support and network and phone issues. He will also provide support to clients for PowerSchool and other client-related technologies. Prior to joining ExED, Van worked in the technology department of CALPERS in a customer-service capacity. Van has a Bachelors of Science degree in Management Information Systems from Cal State Sacramento.
Duc Quach
Accounting Associate
Duc Quach oversees accounts payable, accounts receivable, monitors operating expenditures and assists with monthly financials for clients. Duc comes to ExED with several years of audit experience within public accounting firms like Grant Thornton, where he led various audit engagements within numerous industries. Duc is a graduate of Villanova University where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Accountancy.

While working as an Accounting Assistant for the entertainment industry, Jennifer earned her B.S in Accounting from the University of Southern California. Previously, Jennifer worked as a Research Assistant for the USC Marshall School of Business and volunteered as an income tax assistant in disadvantaged communities in Los Angeles.
Tammy Stanton
Vice President, School Finance and Lead Trainer
Tammy Stanton oversees the business operations for select charter school clients, which includes budgeting, cash flow projections, accounting, bookkeeping, compliance, payroll and general operational issues. Prior to joining ExED, she served as the treasurer for Ocean Charter School, and was involved in all aspects of budgeting and accounting for the school. She has worked as a Business Manager for Miraleste Music and the Women Alive Coalition. Tammy holds a B.A. in business from Antioch University.
Cynthia Thomas

Cynthia Thomas oversees accounts payable, accounts receivable, monitors operating expenditures and assists with monthly financials for clients. Prior to joining ExED, Cynthia was an accountant with PUC Charter Schools where she managed the accounting for ten different schools. Cynthia earned her Bachelors of Business Administration from the University of Houston.
Melissa Valenzuela
Human Resources Manager
Melissa Valenzuela oversees the Human Resources function at ExED, which includes employee relations, employee retention programs and HR policies, procedures and compliance strategies. Prior to joining ExED, Melissa was the HR Manager at Mobile Messenger, a mobile entertainment company where she was responsible for managing the HR and Recruiting initiatives for over 90 employees. Melissa earned her B.A in Public Policy from Duke University.
Richard Vazquez
Vice President, School Finance
Richard Vazquez oversees the business operations for select charter school clients, which includes budgeting, cash flow projections, accounting, bookkeeping, compliance, payroll and general operational issues. Richard previously worked at Lehman Brothers where he served as a Senior Vice President in the Global Financial Sponsors Group. His main focus was helping clients with mergers and acquisitions, acquisition finance, IPOs, and recapitalizations. Richard is an alumnus of the Riordan Fellows Program, Toigo Foundation, and INROADS. He earned his B.A. at the University of California, Berkeley and his MBA from Northwestern University.
Luis Viramontes

Luis Viramontes oversees the business operations for select charter school clients, which includes budgeting, cash flow projections, accounting, bookkeeping, compliance, payroll and general operational issues. Luis has over ten years of experience in finance and accounting as Controller of Incard Technologies, Controller of La Agencia de Orci, and Controller of On Call Computer Supply. Larry Tamayo
San Diego Operating Officer
Larry Tamayo oversees the business operations for San Diego charter school clients, which includes supervising finances, payroll, human resources, compliance and general operations. Prior to leading ExED's San Diego office, Mr. Tamayo was the School Development Coordinator and a Compliance Analyst in ExED's Los Angeles office. He previously worked as a program coordinator at the Atlantic Community Economic Development Corporation. Mr. Tamayo earned an M.A. in public policy at the University of California, Los Angeles and a B.A. in criminology, law and society at the University of California, Irvine.
Shahad Askandar
Payroll Manager
Shahad Askandar oversees payroll operations for Gompers and Keiller, and worked as a client service supervisor at Paychex, Inc. for seven years prior to joining ExED. She holds an M.B.A. from National University and a B.A. in management science from the University of California, San Diego.
Blair Davis
Vice President, School Finance
Blair Davis oversees the business operations for select charter school clients, which includes budgeting, cash flow projections, accounting, bookkeeping, compliance, payroll and general operational issues. Blair comes to ExED with several years of public accounting experience where she managed nonprofit engagements and was involved with various nonprofit training programs in Southern California. Blair graduated from Arizona State University where she earned her B.S. in Accountancy and Information Management.
Rita Evans
Payroll Associate
Rita Evans assists in the oversight of processing payroll for over 40 schools. Prior to joining ExED, Rita worked as a Payroll Accountant with Kleinfelder, where she processed multi-state payroll for a staff of 2,500 employees. She also worked in the payroll department of different organizations within the education, retail, and medical fields.
Kara Gallo
Senior Accounting Associate
Kara Gallo manages accounts payable, aligns monthly spending with budgets, prepares vendor files, and monitors cash flow for both San Diego and Santa Ana clients. Prior to joining the ExED team, Ms. Gallo worked at a retail corporation where she maintained financial records and conducted internal audits of operational processes and procedures. Kara earned a Bachelor of Science from California State University.
Theresa Goody
Accounting Associate
Theresa Goody manages accounts payable, aligns monthly spending with budgets, prepares vendor files, and monitors cash flow for both San Diego and Santa Ana clients. Theresa was most recently a Junior Staff Accountant with Penske Automotive where she helped manage the accounting function for four different business entities. Theresa is a San Diego State University graduate.

Christine comes to ExED with several years of experience working in school environments as a Payroll Supervisor and Accounts Clerk II for school districts in North Carolina and California. Christine graduated with a B.A in Business Administration from California State University, Long Beach.
Melissa Monasmith

Melissa Monasmith manages accounts payable, prepares vendor files and monitors cash flow for clients. Prior to joining ExED, Melissa worked in escrow for North American Title and as a payroll representative for SAIC. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Organizational Communications from Western Michigan University.
Catherine Walsh
Vice President, School Finance
Catherine Walsh oversees the business operations for select charter school clients, which includes budgeting, cash flow projections, accounting, bookkeeping, compliance, payroll and general operational issues. Prior to joining ExED, Catherine was the Senior Financial Accountant for the San Diego Unified School District where she built a charter school accounting department and collaborated with charter leaders in the development of charter school accountability procedures, charter school policies, and facilities use agreements. Along with being CPA certified, Cathy earned her Master of Science in Accounting from the University of Washington. |
